Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)

Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), are a recognised industry-wide method of systematic hazard identification and assessment.

The rigorous and structured approach to reviewing an exisiting process or a final design helps to identify potential operational problems as well as health, safety and environmental hazards.

Although it was originally developed in the process industries, it has now been applied widely throughout industry - Clwyd Associates has experience of leading a variety of HAZOPs including:-

  • dog food manufacturing
  • a COMAH registered agrochemical manufacturing plant involving the use of sodium hydroxide (caustic), monochloroacetic acid, hydrochloric acid and toluene
  • an effluent treatment system

New to HAZOP

Many customers approach us having been told that they "need to do a HAZOP" but not really understanding the implications. So we help them through the process, explain the design detail required and facilitiate the correct Process Safety assessment for their needs (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, CHAZOP etc.)
